As part of the Redshift Performance Engineering team, you will use your experience and skills to identify ways to improve performance and help set the direction and priorities of other engineering teams. You will tackle some of the most challenging performance problems and get involved in performance optimization from the application level down to the code and hardware level.

Key job responsibilities
A Sr. Performance Engineer at Amazon Redshift needs to be able to diagnose any performance bottleneck. When diagnosing a performance issue, they need to be able to start with application logs, and dive deeper into the source code, profiling information, and OS and system metrics to RCA performance issues. They need to be able to run experiments and benchmarks to understand the performance of a complex distributed system and isolate performance issues. They also need to have strong judgement and experience to know what performance issues have the biggest impact to our customers. They need to be highly organized and able to clearly present results and recommendations to development teams. They need to be comfortable reading, modifying, and optimizing C++ code to test performance hypotheses.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years as a software developer or performance engineer developing or optimizing performance-oriented software in C or C++
- 3+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience as a tech lead on a performance engineering or software development team
Experience working with a SQL database
Experience with a datawarehouse such as Redshift

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $131,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $227,000/year in our highest geographic market.
