Amazon Photos is looking for a leader to head the Applied Science team for the business. This leader will report directly to the GM of the business and be part of the leadership team. Amazon Photos provides unlimited photo storage and 5 GB for videos to Prime members and is a top Prime benefit in multiple marketplaces. AI-driven experiences based on image and video understanding are core to customer delight for the business. These experiences are delivered in our mobile, web and desktop apps and on Echo Show and Fire TV. With all the recent advancements in AI, Amazon Photos has completely re-thought the product roadmap and is now looking for a hands-on technical leader who can guide a team of Applied Scientists to deliver both the short-term roadmap working closely with Product and Engineering and make investments for the long-term.

The ideal candidate has a PhD in CS or related fields, 15+ years of work experience in Computer Vision / AI fields, with a demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team and interface with product and business leaders.

Key job responsibilities
- Work closely with Product to understand the short-to-long-term roadmap to uncover Applied Science needs for supporting the business
- Manage a team of Applied Scientists and prioritize their work
- Work closely with engineering to deliver AI features at scale
- Work closely with engineering to build the AI infrastructure needed to deliver on applied science features worldwide
- Work closely with Product and Engineering to prototype new product ideas for consideration
- Be part of the leadership team and participate in key debates around product roadmap including influencing the business strategy

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- MS in CS or related fields
- Technical experience in CV/ML/AI fields
- Demonstrated ability to manage a team of applied scientists

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- PhD in CS or related fields
- Experience in AI applied to photos and videos
- Excellent technical publications
- Material contributions to the CV/ML/AI field as related to image and video processing
- Experience in influencing business strategy

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $196,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $340,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
