As a Sr. Category Merchant Manager (CMM) you will help shape the future of our 3rd party marketplace. The CMM role offers a unique opportunity to own a sizable portion of a fast-growing category P&L while also driving large scale, high visibility strategic projects across a variety of internal teams.
The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical skills, the ability to articulate a strategic vision and to influence senior leaders across the organization. The CMM will have the opportunity to engage with multiple internal teams to optimize category performance by influencing incentive frameworks for 3P sellers on Amazon Business. They will utilize strong communication skills to collaborate with internal cross-functional partners, such as the Trustworthy Shopping Experience team, Supply chain, Operations, Pricing & Selection to drive performance for our Selling partners.
This position provides the candidate an opportunity to execute analytical deeps dives that help inform category growth strategies and initiatives. The CMM gets a unique opportunity to work at the most innovative online retailer, while developing strong functional skills in supply chain, product safety and quality, pricing, and business analytics.
Key job responsibilities
• Category strategy and ownership: Work closely with Leadership on planning and business strategy, drive best-in-class customer experience and maximize unit and GMS growth, and seller participation in strategic AB selection and pricing initiatives through timely analysis and action plans.
• Business Development: Work with Marketplace teams to help identify B2B relevant brand opportunities and to recruit strategic sellers.
• Customer Experience: Innovate with our sellers to drive optimal customer experience across the US Amazon Business 3P business including the the deployment of service offerings that will enhance our customer experience and unlock new assortment.

• Act as the ‘business owner’ by possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact our business
• Have a complete understanding of customer needs, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to deliver site features that provide Amazon Business customers with an unparalleled shopping experience
• Create business plans for new opportunities and develop and execute project plans for the launch of new features, incorporating merchandising and pricing strategies
• Coordinate cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct financial analysis of business opportunities to meet and exceed revenue and profitability targets.
About the team
The Amazon Business Category Business Development teams have a charter to grow the B2B business through improving core Selection and Pricing inputs. We do this in three ways: I) Drive direct engagement with our most strategic business relevant suppliers; II) Build tools, resources and systems that allow strategic Amazon Business programs to scale effectively across Category teams and suppliers; and III) improve the customer and supplier experience by acting as the voice of supplier, and informing Amazon Business product roadmap and Go-to-market strategy.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or related field.
- 6+ years of professional experience influencing internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong business judgment, written and oral communication skills, and a practical, common sense approach to getting things done.
- Strong analytical abilities and problem solving skills.
- Proficiency with Excel and data analysis.
- Operates as a team player, likes to have fun at work, and has a positive attitude.
- Ability to build trust and strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and business partners.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA or related Master's preferred
- Excellent analytical and data-mining aptitude
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize
- Ability to think and react in a high-energy, fast paced environment.
- Demonstrates creative problem solving by adapting frameworks or existing best practices to solve problems in a unique way.
- Proven ability to manage large and complicated projects with experience leading cross-functional projects and teams
- Strong proficiency in analysis tools including Excel, SQL, and statistics software.
- P&L responsibility and experience delivering strong financial results

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $126,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $208,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
